We also were proud to announce that ALL 9 of our schools made AYP this year.  We still have hard work to do and we hope to have all nine in the same position next year.  Thank you to all of our teachers, administration, students, parents, and everyone else who has helped us get to this point.

The vote on whether or not to extend the FDK pilot program will be in May.  The tab at the top is full of pictures of our FDK students at work as well as some videos.  It is password protected because this is not a district site and I feel it is safer for those students whose faces are shown.  This is for the other board members to see some of what I saw while out visiting the FDK classrooms.  I hope everyone understands. :)

Cyber School Success …

No, it is not what you think.  I am not promoting the idea of the online cyber schools that are throughout the state.  I do find it interesting that a local district has started their own cyber school and done it in a way to save money.  Check out the courier article on Quakertown School District here: Cyber School’s Success …

Budget Woes

As many of you may have heard by now we not only need to make up our original deficits, but we now have an additional $3 + million dollars to make up.  I was hopeful that we may be able to get our budget down to a zero increase until Gov. Corbett announced his budget proposal.  This left us with an even greater gap than anticipated.  Of the $5 + million dollar gap $2+ million of that was due to the ARRA (Stimulus) funding we are not going to receive.  I do not count that because we knew we would not have that money going into the next school year.

Notable points from our meeting on Wednesday, March 23rd:

  • The Administration is NOT going to recommend a change to the 6th grade gifted program.  They are going to hire another gifted teacher due to our increase in gifted students.
  • Full Day Kindergarten is in jeopardy due to the cuts at the state level.  The program is a pilot program we have essentially been testing using funds received through the Accountability Block Grant (ABG).  The program was approved for two years (2010/11 and 2011/12) as long as we had the ABG money from the state.
  • A resident asked about the PARX Casino tax appeal money.  Our solicitor mentioned we can not comment on the matter at this time.
